TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)
What is TMS treatment, and what forms do you offer?
Brain Health Nebraska provides Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)—a non‑invasive, FDA‑approved therapy that delivers targeted magnetic pulses to areas of the brain involved in mood regulation and mental performance. We also offer Personalized rTMS (PrTMS®), which is a cutting-edge, noninvasive therapy similar to TMS that uses personalized neurostimulation treatments tailored to your brain, giving Dr. Franzen the ability to adjust treatment based on your results.
How does TMS work?
TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain—typically those involved in mood regulation. A magnetic coil is placed gently against the scalp, delivering pulses that help activate underactive neural pathways. This stimulation can improve communication between different parts of the brain, leading to reduced symptoms of depression and other mental health conditions. Brain Health Nebraska primarily uses TMS to treat adults with depression and other treatment-resistant conditions.
Who is eligible for TMS treatment?
Open to adults 18 years and older. The treatment is ideal for individuals with depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, addiction, or similar conditions, especially those who have not experienced sufficient relief from other treatments
What are the benefits and side effects of TMS?
Benefits:
- 50–60% of patients with treatment-resistant depression experience clinically meaningful improvement; roughly 30–35% achieve full remission at 6 months
- Non-invasive and doesn’t require medication or anesthesia
- Typically, minimal downtime; patients can resume normal activities immediately
-
Side Effects:
- Most common: mild headaches, scalp discomfort during sessions
- Rare: dizziness, facial twitching; serious events (e.g., seizure, mania) are very rare
How do I begin TMS treatment?
1. We first start with a full mental health evaluation and functional brain assessment (brain mapping)
2. Based on the results, a personalized treatment plan is designed.
3. During treatment, regular check-ins ensure continuous optimization
Who oversees TMS treatment at your clinic?
Treatments are conducted by Dr. Franzen and his team of skilled clinicians, ensuring patients receive personalized, attentive care with consistent follow-up.
